Jeanne and I have been best friends since 1st grade at St. Peter's.  We used to help the nuns clean at the church.  We went on retreats together at Columbia Retreat House, where the nuns were always trying to get us to join the convent.  She finally did, but didn't stay very long. She said she wrecked the nuns car and I kidded her that's why she left.

I remember sleep-overs at her house and Nonie made polenta and chili and I  would never eat it Ugh!!!  We were like sisters, always together.

The past few years we got together, Ida, Beryl, Joyleen, Jeanne, and me and we would reminisce about our fun days together in Mt. Carmel.

Since the onset of her illness she has been a rock, even though she was in pain she never complained.  She'd always say "I'm taking it a day at a time."

I will miss her very much, but I know she's in a much better place.

I met Jean at BAE when it was Tracor.  She worked in Payroll and I was in accounting.  We ate our lunch together daily and would kid around and joke, enjoying great laughs.  After she retired we started to get together outside of BAE.  We took trips - Deep Creek, Williamsburg, Charlestown and of course, shopping and lunches.  We played many games of scrabble, cards and board games.  Jean was the Queen of scrabble!  Awesome speller!    She had a great sense of humor and loved to send silly e-mail messages.

She loved her husband, children, grandkids, family and friends.  These were important to her.  She was always a gracious lady and I will miss her.  I was blessed to have her in my life.

The First Boggle Game - A Very Good Day in the Life of Jean

It was a family tradition to play Boggle on holidays when we were gathered together and too stuffed from one of Mom's dinners to do much else.  How did this all start?

In June 1990, Mom and I were in Missoula Montana for my brother's graduation from the University of Montana.  It had been a long day and we were too tired to join Wally for more festivities, so Mom and I stayed at his house while he attended some graduation parties with the idea that we would go to bed early.  Instead we decided to play a new game  - Boggle (Wally and I can't remember why we had the Boggle game there but we did).  Mom loved word games and once we started we just couldn't stop rattling the blocks and turning over the timer.  That night we got a call from Joel, that Rene (her first grandchild) had been born.  Mom screamed and was so excited. When my brother got home after midnight, we were still up playing.... and the tradition began.

It was a joyous day in the life of Jean - a graduation, a birth, and the first family boggle game.

To the family of Jean Shamanski,
Thoughts and Prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
Jean and I went to grade school together. I can still remember the fun we had growing up. Me,Jean and Joan Bierschmidt. I knew her mom dad brother and her grandmother (Aunt Kate). The last time I saw Jean was in Gettysburg in 2006. We had much to talk about and became E-mail buddies.
She will be sadly missed. I will send a donation to St.Jude's in her memory.

To the family of Jeanne,
Jeanne was a special person to me. I contacted her about 5 years ago and we were e-mail buddies since then. She was my godmother for confirmation. I grew up with her and her family, we lived a block away from each other. There will always be a special place in my heart for her. I want to express my sincere sympathy to her family.
